Sandsculpting 2012 dates have officially been set. Be sure to put Nov. 16-25, 2012, on your calendar.
Go ahead and grab those bright pink sand pails and shovels, but you might also want the 5 gallon buckets and garden spade, too! We’re talking some serious sand castle building, because we’re heading to the American SandSculpting Championship in Fort Meyers Beach, Florida.
The American SandSculpting Championship and Beach Festival is a multi-day event held on the beautiful Gulf of Mexico sands of Fort Meyers Beach, Florida. This year, November 16th – 25th, the largest sand sculpting festival in Florida will be celebrating 26 years of family friendly beach fun. Attracting tens of thousands of people each year, the fine sand beaches of sunny Fort Meyers Beach are perfect for sand sculpting, which is why they also attract a world class contingent of Master Sculptors to this fantastic yearly celebration of visual beach art.
This year the event will feature 30 international participants including master sculptor Karen Fralich, who has participated in over than 90 international sand sculpting competitions and has won numerous honors. And don’t forget Amazin Walter who has been competing for more than 27 years ~ so long that he has lost count of his titles! Check out all of the very interesting and quite impressive bios of these three and all of the Master Sculptors of the the 2012 American SandSculpting Championship.
Participants in the 26th Annual American SandSculpting Championship can only use the sugar-white sand, hand tools (muscle-powered only), and standard issue spray sealant for their works of art.
Besides the Master Sculpting competition, the all-beach event will feature “Sand 101!”, an event where professional sculptors will teach the basics (and secrets) of building a great sand castle. Food outlets, vendors, games and music will be featured at “Party on the Pavement!”. There will be a “Sand Vendor Village!” and an “Amateur Competition!” too.
The American SandSculpting Championship and Beach Festival has a comprehensive website where you can find the 2012 event calendar, sculptor bios, and a photo gallery of last year’s winning sand sculptures.
Can’t wait to see what the artists come up with this year!
