Surprise! A Quiet Little Beach!~Coronado, California~

Posted by Jody on December 16, 2011

When Greg and I arrived in San Diego earlier this month, the first thing we had planned was a ferry ride from the Broadway Pier across the San Diego Bay to the City of Coronado.  After all, living in Albuquerque, New Mexico we desperately needed rehydration!  It’s a quick 15 minute excursion from San Diego to the Coronado Ferry Landing, and we knew that from there it would be a delightful trek, on a gorgeous sunny day, to the historic Hotel Del Coronado and the well-known sandy beach on which it stands.

Much to our surprise, even before we docked at the ferry terminal, we spotted a sandy stretch. Tucked beside the Coronado Ferry Landing was a sparkling clean, sleepy little beach.

The beach at the Ferry Landing Marketplace has a nice little grassy area, perfect for picnicking and enjoying the bay breezes.  It’s a peaceful place to relax and enjoy sweeping views of the San Diego Bay and the varied San Diego skyline.

If you are headed to Coronado for a day of fun via the ferry, you may want to set aside some time to enjoy the view and get your feet wet before heading back across the bay. Sun, sand and the San Diego skyline are a perfect end to a perfect Southern California day!

Have you ever found an unexpected beach?  Please, let us know. We’d love to hear about it!

Thanks, Cindy! We really do like the quiet little out-of-the-way spots. We aren’t much for the crazy beach crowds of summer. 🙂 ~How lucky for you to have grown up in La Jolla! Did you realize it at the time? What a beautiful hometown you have!
