Family Style: Venice Beach, California

Most of you have heard of the sometimes infamous Venice Beach, California. The tattoos, the dreadlocks, the man who walks on glass, the “pharmacies.” What you may not have heard is that Venice Beach is actually a great family beach! Off the boardwalk you will find clean sand and lots of it. Of all the beaches I have been to in California, this beach is probably the cleanest.
There are paths for walking and biking, a skate park, and a massive playground (yes, that is a playground in the distance!).
Kids will probably want to go play in the sand and ocean, though, if they are anything like mine! There were kids enjoying the beach with their grown-ups when I was there on a Thursday morning in April.
Although you will not find many shells because the beach is so thoroughly cleaned, you may just find some mussel shells, like I did.
So next time you are in the Los Angeles area for a family trip to Disneyland or if you have an extended layover in LAX (Venice Beach is only 6 miles away!), try spending some time at Venice Beach, even with the kids!

I love Venice Beach! We like to leave a few minutes for that last dose of sea breeze before we finally head to LAX. Venice Beach is the perfect choice for a stop before that flight home.

People watching is also great fun on the boardwalk. There is every kind of beach goer there.
