Wyoming Beaches – Along the North Platte River

Did you know that mountains are where beaches come from? Uplifted mountains erode into valleys, and rivers carry all that sediment to the ocean.
Sometimes rocks show us a record of an ancient river system, beach, or ocean.
So there are beaches in Wyoming, both ancient and recent, but beaches come from Wyoming, too!
You will find the current beaches in Wyoming along rivers or reservoirs. A couple of examples are Dugway Recreation Site and Seminoe Reservoir, both on the North Platte River.
At the Dugway Recreation Site, there are campsites and restrooms. On a weekday in the summer, there was absolutely no one here! It is a very peaceful place to come for recreation.
The Seminoe Reservoir State Park is a more popular recreation site. As Wyoming’s Official State Travel Website states, “Seminoe has 180 miles of shoreline and is one of the largest man-made reservoirs in Wyoming and the largest of the Wyoming State Parks system.” There are huge sand dunes in the area, as well. The beach enthusiast can certainly find plenty to do along the North Platte River if you find yourself in Wyoming!

Thanks, Kristie! These are lovely photos of your trip to Wyoming. I noticed that there is still snow in the Granite Mountains. Yikes.

GORGEOUS pictures!! *Following* your blog now. Thanks for checking out my humble little site, how did you come across it? I’m going to be doing a weekly pictorial post, each week highlighting a different ecosystem/bioregion in California (e.g. Death Valley Desert, Redwood Forest, etc.), with little pithy facts about the amazing features in those places =)
