We’re off making memories!

Posted by Jody on July 7, 2013

Memory is a child walking along a seashore.

You never can tell what small pebble it will pick up and store away among its treasured things.

~Pierce Harris, Atlanta Journal

Looking for Treasures

Making Memories

We are off on vacation for a few weeks! One of our “Treasure Hunters” may be able to check in from time to time for a quick posting.  We might even reblog a few oldies-but-goodies every now and then.

Having three weeks with our grandchildren is a thrill for Greg and me, but it will most likely (and most happily) not leave me any time to scout around online. 😉 Dare I hope for nap time? In the meantime, please check out some of our previous beachy posts by clicking a category that interests you on the left sidebar of the Beach Treasures and Treasure Beaches page! You might also find what you’re looking for by typing a keyword in the “Treasure Hunt” search block (upper left).

There is a lot to look forward to in August! Alaina and I will be combing the shores of the Gulf of Mexico, making our way from New Orleans, Louisiana to Orange Beach, Alabama (into Florida, even). Be on the look out for the exciting series of posts that is sure to spring forth from our adventures.

As always, we wish you many, many wonderful days at the beach making beautiful memories of your own!

We’ll see you in August! ~Jody

Posted by Jody on December 31, 2012

Thank you for visiting! Thank you for reading and for joining the conversation! Thank you for sharing! Many, many thanks to all!

It’s been absolutely wonderful!

The stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

19,000 people fit into the new Barclays Center to see Jay-Z perform. This blog was viewed about 110,000 times in 2012. If it were a concert at the Barclays Center, it would take about 6 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Thank Yous All Around!

Posted by Jody on September 23, 2012

We’re always grateful to be nominated for a distinguished blogger award.  It’s a wonderful feeling to know that folks enjoy our beachy stories and photos. It means a lot!

This week we’ve been doubly honored!  Both AnilCm (My Travels and Photography) and George-b (euzicasa) have nominated us for the One Lovely Blogger Award.  Many thanks and congratulations to both of these men for recently receiving this fine distinction!

AnilCm shares his photographs and memories from his travels around the globe.  AnilCm’s blog motto is: “Let the photographs carry memories of the places travelled and let these be cherished for life.”  From NASA to Disney to India and back, it’s always a treat to see where he’ll take us next!

George-b’s blogging philosophy is “Share something you learned everyday!” George-b serves up an amazing variety: everything from classical and modern music to moments in history and photos of everyday life in Huntington Beach, California (love ’em).  It’s  fun to see and hear what George has in store for us!

We would also like to thank all of our fellow bloggers who have shared Beach Treasures and Treasure Beaches on their blog rolls and  pages.  It’s truly an honor to be recognized in such a way. And once more, to all of our readers and contributors, we thank you all for your support!

Beach Treasures and Treasure Beaches Meets Beach Chair Scientist

Posted by Jody on August 21, 2012

We are honored and tickled that Ann, the Beach Chair Scientist, asked us to join in on her Tuesday fun! Ann posted a mini-interview with us today. We had a wonderful time working with her! (Ann, many thanks!)

Our middle and youngest daughters are also “Treasure Hunters”, and our oldest daughter is a frequent contributor. Our family, including our two adorable grandchildren, is often pictured on the blog’s posts. Beach Treasures and Treasure has become quite a family affair! ~Jody

Beach Chair Scientist

Happy Tuesday! I am sure you know by now, but this is a series I have been featuring each Tuesday this summer to get a special sneak peek at the different personalities behind the scientists, activists, and educators (including bloggers) who play an integral role in the marine science conservation field. It’s essentially an extension of the overwhelmingly popular and well done Tumblr blog, This Is What A Scientist Looks Like, (BCS was featured in April!) which sets out to illustrate that scientists are not just crazy haired nerds in lab coats. I’ve sent a list of 15 random questions to some folks I know and asked that each person share at least their answers to 5 of them. Today It’s a two for one deal with Greg and Jody Diehl, from Beach Treasures and Treasure Beaches.

Greg has lived around water all of his entire life ……

And the “Most Awesome Readers Award” goes to…

Posted by E.G.D. on August 19, 2012

You know, we here at Beach Treasures and Treasure Beaches are some pretty passionate and hard-working hobbyists.  We do our level best to research our posts, check our facts, format the photos, and provide a friendly forum for fellow beach lovers.  Here’s the thing, though: I’m not going to say that we couldn’t do it without our wonderful readers, but we most certainly wouldn’t.  Our readers are an inspiration and a driving force!  Our readers also provide us with a myriad of amazing guest posts and delightful comment-conversations.  Really, who could ask for more?

Well, we don’t ask for more, but occasionally we do get more!  Recently, three of our beautiful and inspiring readers nominated us for “Beautiful”, “Inspiring”, and “Lovely” blogger awards!  We did not actually wind up participating in these awards, but we would like to recognize the nominators and thank them here, as well as to invite you to support them in their nominee/nominator endeavors:

First, Cathie from kindly nominated us for the Beautiful Blogger Award.  In her nomination post, she wrote “In spite of the movie, Jaws, I still love being in and around the ocean.” What a coincidence!  So do we.

Second, Liz from nominated us for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award.  We quite like her nomination post list… she mentions her love of the beach, flip-flops, and beach huts!

Third, Kahuna-pule Kimo from nominated us for the One Lovely Blogger Award.  In Father James’ nomination post, he generously recognized us for having “playful stories and photos about seashells, beaches and the beautiful outdoors which give you a moment to pause and relax from the busy day-to-day lives we live!

And so, many thanks all around, and extra-special thanks to both Cathie, Liz, and Kahuna-pule Kimo.  Thanks for reading!  If it existed, we Treasure Hunters (the admin and writers of BTTB) would nominate our site for the “Most Awesome Readers Award.”

Starting Fresh

Posted by Greg on July 12, 2011

Aloha, beach-combers of the world!  I’m E.G.D., and I’m one of the administrators of Beach Treasures and Treasure Beaches.  Our family has been traveling beach-to-beach for much of my life (I also lived on the island of Oahu for several years while earning my MFA ^_^), and we feel that we’ve learned to spot a treasure when we see one.  Starting soon, we will be posting beach news and beach info, and not only will we tell you what treasures you can find on which beaches, but we’ll also share with you which beaches we believe are real treasures.  We plan to start with a daily theme (usually a specific region or beach, but sometimes a specific beach find (i.e. shark teeth)), and from there we will give you a newspaper/travel guide esque scoop on the subject.  We hope you’ll enjoy our findings as much as we certainly will!  Mahalo- E.G.D.
