Christmas at the Beach ~ New Mexico Style!

Posted by Jody on December 2, 2013

How do you celebrate Christmas with seaside style? Does your favorite beach community dazzle holiday revelers with an annual lighted boat parade? Does Santa Claus arrive on your sandy shores riding a jet ski? Or does the jolly old elf hang ten on a surfboard?

New Mexicans celebrate with a traditional family friendly holiday river cruise! We head to Carlsbad, New Mexico, and hop onto pontoon boats that set sail from the Pecos River Village docks – directly across the Pecos River from Carlsbad Lake Beach Park. The boats travel along the Pecos for prime time views of creatively illuminated back yards and colorful twinkling river islands. Quite happily, our extended family gathered together on this year’s opening night for the ever popular “Christmas on the Pecos” sparkly winter wonderland tour!

Here, we’ll scoot over a bit so you can join us for a festive ride aboard the lovely Bella Sera:

Now it’s your turn to tell us about your favorite beachy Christmas event!  ~ Pretty please ~ with a sea star on top!

According to New “Christmas on the Pecos River has been awarded one of the top 100 “must see” events in North America by the American Bus Association every year since 1996.”

2011 Beachy Keen Holiday Events

Posted by Jody on November 14, 2011

Letters to Santa (Photo © Jody Diehl)

Santa is so busy this time of year that we just can’t keep up with him!  We hope you’ll join us in finding more beachy keen Holiday Events so that we can all celebrate the holidays at the beach, amusement pier or historic lighthouse.

This Jolly Old Elf really seems to be a Jack-of-All-Trades.  Does Santa Claus jet ski, para sail, kayak or paddle board onto your town’s sandy beachfront?  Or maybe Kris Kringle will water ski or pilot a seaplane along your city’s coastline?  Will your town be celebrating with a lighted holiday boat parade? Curious minds want to know!

We’re hoping to gather many, many free beachy keen Holiday Events. We’d like to post them on Beach Treasures And Treasure and on our Facebook page, too.  You might even want to submit a Guest Post about a free Holiday Beach Event in your area (Go ahead and click the Submissions tab at the top of the page for details and guidelines.)  In the meantime, we’ve got a pretty good starter set compiled for you:

Santa’s Annual Boat Trip, East Providence, Rhode Island: “Pomham Santa is scheduled to make his annual boat trip along the East Providence (Riverside) shoreline on Saturday, November 26, 2011. For the past four years, Santa has visited the area by boat to wave to children and adults along the shoreline. He can also be seen on the East Bay Bike Path when he visits “Lighthouse Cove” and Pomham Rocks Lighthouse in Riverside.” (Reporter Today/More Info)

Santa Arrives at Navy Pier, Chicago, Illinois: “Join your friends at Navy Pier in welcoming Santa on Saturday, November 26 at 5 p.m. as he arrives by a Shoreline Sightseeing boat, marked by a pyrotechnic display!” (Navy Pier/More Info)

Santa Arrives via Canoe at the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach, Honolulu, Hawaii:  “The Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach welcomes Santa every year on his canoe voyage to the islands. Enjoy the hula entertainment and free photos with Santa!” ( Info) December 10, 2011

2011 Holiday Boat Parades, Florida: Florida has an entire website dedicated to Holiday Boat Parades!  Will you be in the Florida Keys, Cocoa Beach or Pensacola this holiday season?  I counted 59 cities with events at Florida by  This really is a jolly site!

McDonald’s Holiday Lights at the Beach, Virginia Beach, Virginia: “Festive fish, jumping dolphins, frolicking porpoises – all in bright, colored lights against the clear night-time sky, are the stars of McDonald’s Holiday Lights at the Beach, a nautical and holiday-themed light display at the Virginia Beach oceanfront!” (Visit Virginia Info) November 18, 2011 – January 1, 2012

We wish you a joyous, fun filled holiday season!
